Making Friends

Three best friends

With the popularity of the Internet and the expense of going out on the town growing, it’s becoming more challenging for people of any age to make friends. Even teens and college students, who have the regular attendance to school to make them socialize, are limited by cliques and other differences. So how is a person to meet people and make friends these days?

Enjoy Things in Common

Seeking out others with common hobbies is one of the easiest and most enduring ways to make friends. Because you’re both interested in the same activities, you will naturally have something to talk about, so awkwardness won’t be as much of a problem for shy people to overcome. Also, you can meet up and do your hobby together, which mixes up your schedule in a fun way.

Embrace Differences

Differences are the reason people separate themselves and others into social cliques. Unfortunately, only knowing people who are like you means you’re missing out on some potentially great friendships you would have had if you had been brave enough to venture outside of your usual social circle. Having something in common is great, but you don’t have to have everything in common! Appreciate and respect your friends’ unique qualities and they will respect and appreciate yours more as well.

Be Daring

If your biggest obstacle to making friends is nowhere to go to meet people, be brave and take the first step. Take a new class, go to local events, and have fun!

Taking the Family Trick-or-Treating

Taking the family trick-or-treating can be both a trick and a treat. It always seems to be raining buckets or windy as hell and the kids freeze in their costumes while parents bundle tighter in their coats.

A good rule of thumb when buying kids Halloween costumes is to buy them big enough to go over the long pants, two shirts and a coat with a hood, since it will be cool around this time. This will make their trick-or-treating more successful, as they won’t want to go home too soon because it’s too cold.

However, if the parents enjoy candy as much as the kids do, then they get to fill up pillow cases and trick-or-treat longer. It was always a pleasure as the kids came in and dumped out their hard-earned candy cache, and we pawed through it looking for anything opened or homemade or chocolate.

The neighbors always gave out tiny trial-size tubes of sugar-free toothpaste with a small toothbrush – everyone always felt sorry for their kids. The same neighbor made all her kids’ Halloween costumes, and they were never scary. They were unicorns and fairies, which was okay, but was a bit embarrassing to the boys when they got to be teenagers…

Remember to be safe and warm this year. Get those kids’ Halloween costumes bigger. Dress the kids warm underneath them and make sure they can be easily seen in the dark.  Wear bright colors, reflective materials and watch for cars.

Relationships That Last

If a relationship seems like one you want to last, you need to be willing to work at it. At first it just seems to come naturally, but as time goes on you will find that you need to put effort into keeping the relationship alive and vibrant.

Time

Even more important that what you do together you need to make time for each other. This isn’t really a problem in the beginning, you want to be together and it seems like making time for work, school and the other necessities is more of a problem. After that initial period, however, you need to make sure you are still spending time together on a regular basis. You are still each other’s best friend.

Trust

Relationships that last have to be built on trust. Stephen Covey (New York Times Best Selling Author) says that if you don’t have trust in a relationship, you really don’t have much of a relationship. That trust grows stronger with experience as you go through things together and you find that you can depend on your friend or companion.

Communication

Another essential component of a lasting relationship is communication. You have to be able to talk to each other, openly and honestly. It is imperative that each of you can listen to the other’s concerns with an open mind, non-judgmentally to be able to understand where they are coming from before you seek to be understood. It is more important that you understand the other person than that you are right all the time, or in other words, seek to understand before you seek to be understood.

Examining Fashion, Gaining Relationships

The days are lonely, charted out in stale hours and dull beginnings. Life is without romance. It’s a hollow echo of a sound you once heard; and you crave more now than the silence. You wish instead to experience a relationship, to gain the trust of another. Such a quest seems simple… and yet too often does it fail. Connections are attempted; friendships are pursued; but the aftermath of every date is disaster.

You don’t understand … why: begin to doubt your own worth, start to question every facet of who you are.

Such questions shouldn’t be applied to your personality, however. Instead they should be offered to your clothing.

Fashion, for you, is a simple affair. You choose brands (like LRG Clothes) to provide the expected styles and comfort. No thoughts beyond silhouettes are offered. This is a mistake, however: because there are cultural demands to consider and these have too long been ignored.

Fabrics are laced with meaning. Specific colors, styles, textures and more can represent different ideals – being unaware of these can cause societal strains. There’s an assumption of modesty within the Egyptian culture, for example. Individuals of this lineage may refrain from exposing skin. A revealing blouse would then be deemed inappropriate for a meeting.

Those of Hindu descent, it should also be known, can view the color of white as representative of mourning (wearing it traditionally within funeral settings). This can create an awkward first impression therefore.

There are subtle variations between cultures and these should be understood before attempting a relationship. Fashion is not universal in its intentions. The differences must be noted – and mastered.

Three Great Ideas for Teenage Dating

Teenagers seem to get a bad rap ranking right up there with the terrible two’s. They can actually be quite delightful to have around the house. Here are some ideas for the inevitable dating times that will come with teenagers.

Don’t Start Too Soon

We all know it is normal as children get older they become more aware of each other and it’s normal to have “crushes” even as early as elementary school. The important thing is helping them know what to do with the feelings. The basic purpose in “dating” is really to find someone with whom you are compatible. When you think of the purpose behind dating you gain some perspective.

Group Dating Is A Great Way To Start

When teens want to pair off or start “dating” suggest they go with other couples or even as a group. Maybe 4 guys can invite 4 girls to go skating but they aren’t really paired up like for Prom. They can have fun, socialize, get to know each other without having to create all the “drama” that seems to be so prevelent these days. Then as they get older and really start thinking about what dating is all about  they have some idea of how the opposite sex thinks. They also have a better idea what they like.

Communicate Openly

The very most important thing is to keep the communication open. Parents can talk all along to their kids about the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing. Kids should be comfortable talking to their parents about what’s going on as well. If you can talk to and trust each other the “dating” scene will fall into place.

Health is Contagious

Living a healthy physical lifestyle helps to strengthen other areas of your life as well. You can also be an inspiration to others around you to live more healthily.

Benefits of Physical Health

Being able to do things with the ones you love is one of the best benefits of living in a healthy manner. As you eat right, exercise, keep your mind active and get the sleep you need you have more energy for your loved ones. You also might just take some of them along with you for a healthy ride. Endorphins, released with exercise, naturally help you handle stress from everyday life. Sharing this experience with others builds strong relationships as well. When you achieve a goal together, more bonds are strengthened than just muscles.

Health Goes Farther Than The Physical

There are ways of living that are more healthy than others. Healthy lifestyles and the relationships in them include balance. You need balanced diets, a balance between work and play, a balance between spouse and kids, balance with spiritual things all help you keep running on an even keel. Things do get out of whack occasionally for everyone. When they do, you can work on them to get the balance back.

Teaching The Next Generation

Helping the kids find balance is essential as well. So much of children’s lives today are pre-packaged.  Teach them to build a hut, catch bugs! They need to do anything actively imaginative. Zig Zigler has a “Wheel of Life” that can be adapted to kids by parents who want to teach them early on the benefits of balance. They need to balance their wheels, too.

Buying Your Significant Other Jewelry

Swatch Bijoux Jewelry

Jewelry is a popular gift for the person you are dating. Race, gender, religious views, and personal taste matter very little when it comes to jewelry. Almost everyone likes it. So if you are looking for the perfect gift, then you know that jewelry is almost always a hit.

Now, with that being said, you have to make sure you get it right. While most like it, not everyone has the same kind of taste. Nothing turns a thoughtful gift into an awkward moment of silence like a piece of jewelry that is totally wrong for that person.

Make sure scour Canada 411 for all the best jewelry stores; take a look at what your significant other is wearing. Do they like diamonds, bracelets, rings, or anything else? Are they into white gold, yellow gold, or do they tend to vary their choices? If it’s a guy, you might want to look at the kind of watches that he has and decide if they are good or not. These are all choices that your significant other makes, and you can pick up on their style without ever having to ask them these questions.

Don’t get caught up in the price of jewelry. Yes, some of the things you will find might be expensive, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find affordable jewelry for people you care about that will leave them impressed. Buying jewelry is a great opportunity to impress your significant other. Don’t let it slip through your fingers. Start shopping online for them today.
