Are You a Leader or a Boss

Looking at the difference between true leaders and just a boss is somewhat like looking at being a father vs. a dad. It is said anyone can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad. This can be said of leadership, too. What is the difference? Caring and time would be two of the big differences.

Invest Time For Longer Results

Those who want to be leaders rather than just bosses need to invest the time to learn certain principles that will lead to a lifetime of long lasting results. These “leaders” can be those in charge of an office staff, a classroom, a student-body or even a family. They also invest time getting to know those they lead, individually. Whether it’s your workers or your kids, get to know them.

Find Solutions That Let Everyone Win

When leaders are concerned about the feelings and needs of those they oversee more cooperation exists as well as loyalty. Workers as well as children know when their needs are taken into consideration in the decision making process. They feel they have a vested part and are willing to work harder to make the company or family succeed. They need to understand you, too.

Relationship As Well As Results

When you are a leader who cares about those they lead as well as their performance, the performance generally improves. When workers feel worthwhile they tend to enjoy their jobs more and are more loyal. This applies to the family as well. Children who see that they are needed and appreciated in the family, respond better to correction or guidance.
